World Service funded programs provide knowledge, life skills, values and resources and thus empower young people and adults to reach their full potential and create a better future for themselves and their dear ones. World Service funding supports six key areas: Strengthening YMCAs, Employment and Vocational training, Health Education, Youth Leadership and Service learning, Recreation, camping and arts and Youth and Technology.
The World Service builds strong, self-reliant YMCAs with better equipment to deliver responsive, innovative and sustainable programs by providing valuable resources to help the YMCAs around the world to operate more efficiently.
In many countries the unemployment rates exceed 50%. This is because in spite of individuals possessing relevant skills, the job opportunities are scarce. The YMCAs around the world are highly committed in addressing to the high unemployment rates. They try to ensure that people have the ability and opportunity to secure productive, stable and rewarding work through career counseling, skills development and business management training.
A number of people around the world lack access to basic medical information and services. Young people being more vulnerable, the YMCA promotes healthy lifestyles, particularly among them. More than 1 million youth annually are guided by the YMCA programs which are focused on reducing health risks, raising awareness of adolescent reproductive health and preventive drug abuse. People are helped to make healthy choices through YMCA’s education and socially relevant programming. Extensive support is offered to youth and families struggling with health crisis by the YMCA.
